ptf 3207A High Density Output Connector Option

Introduction

The standard version of the ptf 3207A is supplied complete with three outputs, namely 10MHz RF sine, 1PPS (pulse per second) TTL, and IRIG B 123 time code (amplitude modulated 1kHz time code signal).

Typically most customers will add to the basic outputs to have, say 4 x 10MHz, 4 x 1PPS, 1 x IRIG B time code amplitude modulated, and 1 x IRIG B time code in the digital phase width modulated version (DCLS)

In many cases customers would like to add more outputs, but have previously been restricted by the number of connector positions available.

This is undesirable for several reasons, the main one being that the user does not get the number/type of outputs needed and has to add distribution, adding cost and taking additional rack space that is usually in short supply

High Density Connector Rear Panel

Due to the requirement in many cases for more than 10 outputs/inputs, a new high density panel has been introduced that will accommodate up to 24 total outputs/inputs. In conjunction with introducing this compact format, a new distribution pcb has been introduced that will allow addition of outputs in pairs up to the maximum of twelve pairs.

The new distribution comes in three forms, RF (for 10MHz or other RF sine wave signals), digital (to handle 1PPS, IRIG B DCLS, or other digital output frequencies), and time code to handle amplitude modulated IRIG B signals.

Due to the very high density of the connectors, it can be quite challenging to correctly mate the cable end to the receptacle, and so when this option is supplied, a special BNC insertion tool is also supplied to aid installation, see picture below.
